Many store bought marinara sauces can be LOADED with sodium. Most brands range anywhere from 400-600mg of sodium per 1/2 C – yikes! This homemade marinara sauce recipe is a traditional recipe that will take you just 15-20 minutes to make. The extra time spent making this is definitely worth cutting out the excess salt and other preservatives that many mariners sauces have!
1 TBSP Olive oil
3-4 garlic cloves, minced
2 C tomatoes (cherry tomatoes work best)
Red pepper flakes
Dried basil (fresh works too)
1. Heat minced garlic and olive oil in a pan on medium heat until garlic is golden brown.
2. Pulse cherry tomatoes in a food processor 7-8 times, or until tomatoes are pureed, but still have some “texture” to them. (You can use canned tomatoes for this step to save you some time)
3. Add tomatoes and seasonings to the garlic and olive mixture. Stir and boil for 5 minutes.
4. Reduce heat and simmer on low heat for about 10 -15 more minutes.
All seasonings are to taste 🙂
